The Logo Design Process – Preliminary Stages and Unused Logo Concepts
Client and Project
The Munich Center for Geoastronomy (MCGA) is an interdisciplinary research institute at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (LMU).
MWIMMERDESIGN was tasked with developing a new logo for the center. The collaboration took place from August through October 2025.
Concept
Drawing on the themes of data, light, and matter, a symbol was created that unites geology and astronomy in a clear, timeless form.
The logo is intended to underscore the center’s mission to conduct research at the intersection of Earth and the cosmos, proximity and distance, analysis and insight.
Implementation
The logo consists of two components: the symbol, with its unifying, overarching character, and the wordmark in the Hubot Sans (SemiBold) font.
It was produced in both English and German versions, as well as in two- and three-line layouts.
The following were delivered:
The logo is used on the MCGA website, business stationery (letterhead, business cards), promotional items (pens, coffee mugs), and T-shirt and button designs, among other things.
