A Brief for Your Motion Design or Video Project

Author: Matthias Wimmer · Published: January 13, 2023 · Updated: November 1, 2025

You are planning a video or motion design project and want to explain your needs to us as clearly as possible? This briefing guide covers the most important questions regarding your target audience, message, style, and budget, so that your project gets off to a focused start right from the beginning.

No problem – use our briefing guide!

To help you better assess your project and to provide a little guidance, we’ve compiled a few key questions in this briefing. Before you pick up the phone or send an email, simply answer the following seven questions: Who, What, Why, How, Where, When, and How much.

This gives us an ideal starting point for our discussion, which will allow us to provide you with the best possible advice. Of course, you don’t have to know the answers to all the questions right away—we’d be happy to clarify everything during our in-person meeting. But having some key information ready will save both you and us time, allowing us to start thinking about the content and implementation right away.

1. Who?

Stellen Sie sich doch bitte kurz vor.

  • How big is your company, and what industry is it in?
  • Are there any marketing initiatives to consider, both in general and in the area of online marketing?
  • What sets your company apart (USP)?

2. What?

What exactly is this about?

  • Would you like to introduce or explain a product or service?
  • Or should your company be the focus, for example, in a promotional video?

3. Why?

What is the purpose of the video?

  • Explain an existing product, service, or situation?
  • Introduce and promote a new product or service?
  • Increase general awareness of your company?
  • Train employees?
  • Recruit new employees?
  • Entertain an audience?

4. How?

Do you already have any ideas about the type of video you’d like?

  • Should it be an animated film or shot with real actors?
  • Would you like a professional voice-over, or would you prefer to let the images speak for themselves?
  • Who is the target audience for your video, and how would you like to reach them?
  • Are there any corporate design guidelines from your company and/or specifications from the marketing department that need to be followed?

5. Where?

How do you plan to use your video?

  • Will the video appear only on the company website, or do you want to launch a social media campaign?
  • Do you need a video for a trade show or event, or for internal company use?
  • Will your video be shown only in German-speaking countries, or do you need different language versions for international use?

6. When?

Timeline and Deadline

Realistic planning gives both you and us the necessary certainty for our collaboration.

  • What is the timeframe for completing the project?
  • Do you already have a specific date in mind by which the video needs to be finished?

7. How much?

And last but not least, let’s talk about money.

  • To help us understand your vision for the project, it would, of course, be helpful to know your budget in advance.
  • This will give us a solid foundation for our discussions right from the start and allow us to work together to find the right solution for you. – And we’re sure to find a solution.
